Elementary from Watson at Oulto....

Elementary from Watson at Oulton

The Gtour continues to be a success as the second event of the season was another sell out after De Vere Oulton Hall played host on Friday 11th March.

The sun shone on what was the first mid-week event ever on Tour which saw a packed field of 56 arrive knowing that a good day will earn them the ever important order of merit points which goes towards the Race to Cyprus.

Steve Watson continued his early season form to claim victory with 36 points.

Watson, who had a top-five finish at De Vere Staverton Park in the first event of the season, birdied the last hole to claim victory at Oulton:

“It was tough out there at times with the wind changing direction, but I was very pleased with the way I scored especially on the front nine.

“I needed that birdie on the last, I missed out on a prize at Staverton on a count back and I was playing with Lee (Parham) who finished second and I knew he was having a good back nine so the birdie won it for me in the end.”

New to the tour this season, Watson has been impressed with what he has seen so far:

“It’s brilliant; I’ve nothing but praise from what I’ve seen so far. I’ve been made to feel very welcome. A friend of mine recommended it to me and I’m glad he did now.”

Lee Parnham finished top of the birdie tier and second overall with 35 points to finish a point behind Watson.

Third place went to Paul Whiting with 34 points followed by last events winner Kevin King who maintained his position at the top of the order of Merit with another good showing.

Players don’t have long to wait before trying to earn more valuable points in their race to Cyprus. Saturday 19th March see’s the Tour head to Cheshire and the Stunning De Vere Wychwood Park. The 7213 yard championship course always brings the best out of the players and to win there is not an easy task.

Results:

1. Steve Watson 36 points, 2. Lee Parnham 35pnts, 3. Paul Whiting 34pnts, 4. Kevin King 32pnts, 5. Ian Halliwell 31pnts, 6. Phil Eadsforth 31pnts, 7. John Kelford 31pnts, 8. Matthew Surgey 31pnts, 9. Chris Nuttall 31pnts, 10. Raymond Share 30pnts.

“Today was just a great day for me and one of those days where everything seemed to go right and on the greens which were fantastic, I was holing everything from 10ft which made things a lot easier”.

A solid debut performance on tour from Thomas Jones helped him claim the top prize in the Eagle tier followed by Graham Miles and Gary walker respectively.

In the birdie tier behind overall winner King, Lee Parnham and Jayson Liu collected prizes on the day and put themselves in good position for the season ahead.

The top 52 will head to a two day semi-final at De Vere Belton Woods with the top 10 moving forward to the grand final and booking their place on the plane to Cyprus.

Gtour "Race to Cyprus".....

Gtour 'Race to Cyprus' Starts with the Gschool

The 2011 Gtour ‘Race to Cyprus’ is ready and raring to go and is set to start with something different this year. The launch event taking place on Friday 18th Feb at De Vere Staverton Park will see the first ever Gschool providing a full days coaching with two of the UK's best coaches.

Coaching sessions will be presented by Adam Sprackling of Single Minded Golf who attended the Wokefield Park Gtour event in 2010 and Neil Plimmer who is recognised as one of the UK's top 25 golf coaches by Golf Monthly Magazine.

Sprackling is excited to be involved with the tour once again: “It's fantastic to be invited to be Gtour’s official Mind Coach. I’ve loved assisting through online coaching and a live group “Mind Clinic” in 2010 – I’ve been really inspired by such an enthusiastic and friendly tour. I’m now looking forward to kicking off the GSchool in February and helping more players bring out the kind of golf they know they can play.”

Following the announcement in January of the 2011 Race to Cyprus format, the UK semi-final and the grand final at Aphrodite Hills Cyprus, further dates have now been added to the calendar including a trip to De Vere Oulton Hall on Friday 11th March.

Steve Dacre, De Vere Group Golf Sales Manager said: “De Vere Hotels, Resorts and Venues are supporting Gtour for the 3rd year running following a very successful series of events in 2010. Having personally joined the De Vere Group 6 months ago, it’s refreshing to work in partnership with a well established and polished amateur tour which due to popular demand is looking to increase its event calendar for 2011 and no doubt will be another huge success.”

The tour starts in February 2011 at De Vere Staverton Park on Saturday 19th.

To earn their chance to represent the Champion Golf Nation of the Year, a pair will need to win a maximum of four four-ball, better-ball matches, starting in May, in regional brackets consisting of 16 pairs each. Your Country Needs You! Sign Up for a “Ryder Cup Moment”

What pride and passion we all witnessed at Celtic Manor! Now it’s the turn of Club Golfers of all standards to experience the emotion of a “Ryder Cup moment” and represent their Country in the 2011 Four Nations Golf Challenge!
The Four Nations Golf Challenge, potentially the most exciting pairs competition for amateur club golfers ever devised, offers the mouth-watering prize of a “Ryder Cup” style finale on one of Europe’s most challenging courses.

Open to men and ladies, The Four Nations Golf Challenge will culminate in a Grand Final to be contested by four teams of 12 players representing England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales at The Oxfordshire Golf Club in the Chiltern Hills from 25 - 28 September, 2011.

To earn their chance to represent the Champion Golf Nation of the Year, a pair will need to win a maximum of four four-ball, better-ball matches, starting in May, in regional brackets consisting of 16 pairs each. If necessary, depending on the number of entries, a one-day final qualifying event will be held to decide which six pairs will represent their country in the Grand Final.

Roger Brady, Director of organisers Concierge Golf, said: “Even though several national knock-out competitions for amateur golfers take place each year, there are none, as far as we are aware, that offer the chance of an ‘international team’ appearance to club golfers of all standards.”

The cost of entry is just £20 per person (£40 per pair).

The Oxfordshire, a spectacular rolling layout designed by Rees Jones and owned by the Leaderboard Group which also includes Chart Hills, Dale Hill and Sandford Springs, opened its own state- of-the-art four-star hotel last May and every finalist will stay free of charge throughout the four days of the Grand Final, which is planned to be televised.

MORE FOLLOWS

The Four Nations Golf Challenge - 2

Since opening in 1993, The Oxfordshire has hosted the Anderson Consulting World Matchplay, the Ladies English Open, and from 1996 to 1999 it was the venue for the Benson & Hedges International Open. The latter boasts an enviable list of winners including Colin Montgomerie, Bernhard Langer and Darren Clarke. The Oxfordshire will provide a proven setting for club golfers to experience the passion and thrill of playing for their countries for the first time.

As Roger Brady says: “Just think: it could be you on the last day, all square in the deciding match, your team-mates behind the final green willing you on to hole the putt that gives your country victory! Where else could you feel that ‘Ryder Cup moment’?”

Entries are open to every golfer with a CONGU ‘active” handicap and will close on 30 April, 2011.

Gtour Golf Series...

Run by golfers for golfers the Gtour Golf Series and Order of Merit is the UK's amateur golf tour for wannabe Tigers and Sorrenstams. Whether you play off scratch or 28 (36 for ladies) you are welcome to take part in a great days golf and make many new friends with like minded golfers.
Brought to you by Gforce Events Ltd, Gtour is the only UK amateur tour to be played predominantly on the weekends. Gtour will be played out between February and November on some fabulous courses.

You can visit the official website at www.gtour.co.uk

Gtour Amateur Golf Tour set for Great start in 2010

The Gtour Amateur Golf Events and Order of Merit Tour is back for 2010, bigger and better, with more sponsors, more venues and a new look website. With the first event set to take place shortly on Saturday 20th Feb at De Vere Belton Woods, the season ahead will provide an exciting series of events for the average Amateur golfer wanting to compete in an event of difference, with the aim of bringing the Professional Tour experience to all golfers.

For 2010 the team behind the Gtour are delighted to announce Srixon as Tour Sponsor for the 2010 events alongside the 2009 Sponsors of De Vere, Bunker Mentality, Golfbreaks.com and Teeofftimes.co.uk.

Colin Astbury, Events Director, said, "The 2009 Gtour was great fun to set up and during the course of the first year on tour we visited some fantastic courses, met loads of avid UK amateur golfers and made many new friends. We are really excited about the 2010 tour, and have taken the opportunity to grab all of the good bits from 2009 and supersize them for the new season. We have kept many of the same great courses from last year and added lots of new venues including top 100 UK courses plus we have new sponsors who are really excited about the UK amateur golf scene."

The events take place around the UK at primarily De Vere venues played at the weekends and are open to all golfers with handicaps up to 28 and 36 for men and women respectively. Players can compete in either individual or multiple events which then counts towards the unique points driven Order of Merit leaderboard.

Richard Barker, Golf and Leisure Sales Manager, commented, "We are delighted to be Sponsoring Gtour for the 2nd year and 2010 looks set to be another exciting year, offering something different in terms of events to all golfers. The development of golf is key to De Vere and we are fully supportive of amateur golf through our courses, facilities and involvement in Amateur and Professional events throughout our venues."

The success of 2009 was a great achievement for all those involved including the Gtour team and the players themselves. The 2009 Order of Merit Gtour Champion was eventually won by Shane Davies after a nail biting final round at De Vere Staverton Park which saw 5 players competing in the final event all with a chance of claiming the 2009 title.

Bunker Mentality’s Robert Hart said: “The Gtour was very successful in the first year proving that there are lots of keen golfers out there looking to play in regular, well organised events. The profile of the golfer is changing and this new mindset appeals to those playing on the Gtour. The team behind the Gtour are keen to grow the game, recognising this change and want a sponsor that reflects this, which is why Bunker Mentality is a perfect fit.”

2010 will include some of the popular stops on the 2009 tour including De Vere Oulton Hall , De Vere Slaley Hall in May and this year the tour will visit De Vere Mottram Hall plus the first event in the South West at one of the UK's Top 100 golf courses, the Manor House on Oct 15th.

Colin Astbury, added, "Of course Gtour stands for "golf tour" but its not just about playing golf, its about the whole experience from when you first visit the website to attending your 1st, 2nd, 3rd event. Its about making new friends, playing competition class courses, first tee nerves and checking out your tour photos after the event. Its about watching the Order of Merit evolve during the year, second guessing who will lead after the next event, its about the final and the anticipation as the last 2 groups come in off the 18th, but most of all its about the players and ensuring that everybody has a thoroughly enjoyable day regardless of whether they win one of the great prizes on offer. 2010 looks set to be another thrilling and enjoyable year"

2007 Lee Westwood Trophy at Rotherham Golf Club

Lee Westwood Trophy

29th August to 31st August 2007
Men's Amateur Scratch 72 Hole Strokeplay Competition

Rotherham Golf Club takes another step towards national and international recognition when it holds its annual 72-hole tournament for leading amateur men at the end of August.

The go-ahead South Yorkshire club looks forward to welcoming up to 100 scratch players from Great Britain and abroad to the Lee Westwood Trophy, which will count towards the Ping/English Golf Union "Order of Merit". The event is also included in the newly formed World Amateur Golf Ranking system organised by the R & A.

The four-round tournament is one of only two similar prestige events to be held in the North of England. It will earn points for international and national rankings, similar to long-established events such as the Brabazon Trophy and the Lytham Trophy.

Several England internationals and Elite Squad players are again expected to enter. Last year, David Horsey from Styal GC took the sleek and modernistic Lee Westwood Trophy. Remarking on how well the proceedings went at the Thrybergh course, one experienced player said, " It might have been an amateur tournament, but it was run like a professional event".

The four-round/three-day event takes place from the 28th August with the last 36 holes - after a cut - played on the final day. Commented chairman of the organising committee, John Lomas, "When you get a field of this quality together, competition is bound to be of the highest calibre so we're clearly in for a memorable few days. Thrybergh will provide a stern, but fair test. Although the course is blessed with a tranquil tree-lined setting, there are a number of quite challenging holes".

The tournament is kindly sponsored by Keepmoat Plc, a national construction company.
